Last Look: West Mountain Shelter

Photograph: Night time; a campfire smolders on the left, as a group of young men sit atop the West Mountain Shelter. One of them wears a headlamp that illuminates the group in stark contrast against the dark surroundings.

This is from a different hike, one that I probably won’t be able to write up, but I still love the image. The U.S. Military Academy at West Point is just fifteen minutes north of Bear Mountain State Park. Some time after the April trek, hiking with some friends, we met this group of young cadets sitting on top of West Mountain Shelter and tending the camp fire.
